Voltage Revolution’s Creating Paths is FREE event series aimed at Black creatives and entrepreneurs between 18-24 years old seeking to up their content creation game, or break into the creative industry.
Led by the most prolific creative talents in the industry today our free event series will share how you can also create showstopping content, make it as a successful freelancer (it's tough out here), and build a portfolio to attract clients. Attendees will also be entered into a prize-draw where you could win a 12-month subscription for an Adobe product of your choice, gaining access to professionally renowned tools for video, images, graphics or illustration simply by attending. |
Creating Paths: Becoming a content creator
29 March, 6:00pm - 7:30pm GMT As part of Creating Paths’ first-day event, you will hear from presenter, content creator and producer, Qoy Lawal on her process of producing content. Qoy will share tips on how you can leverage your creativity for results, the lessons they learnt on their content creation journey, and the differing paths you can take to become a freelancer. Qoy Lawal has made appearances on podcasts and platforms such as Halfcast Podcast, 3 Shots of Tequila, BBC London Radio, Word on the Curb, Link Up TV and more. As a presenter, she hosted for Yam Carnival, the UK Entertainment Awards 2021. In addition, she has hosted a show on No Signal Radio. Qoy is the creator, host and editor of her YouTube series: The Safe Space Show and The Fashion Safe Space. She creates her content so her audience can experience her ideas, and her content fulfils her need to experiment and explore different realities. With over 240,000 views on her YouTube channel, Qoy is becoming a content curator powerhouse and listed on GUAP magazine's top 30, under 30 Black creatives who are achieving excellence in London and beyond. |
Creating Paths: Becoming a director
30 March, 6:00pm - 7:30pm GMT As part of Creating Paths’ second-day event, you will hear from director and content creator, Tonye Mak, on the different paths you could take to become a director. With a vast history of experience working for international platforms like the BBC, Nike, and Buzzfeed, Tonye will provide you with the tools and resources you need to begin your journey as a director or content creator. Tonye Mak grew up in Lambeth and Wandsworth and is now an editor, director and storyteller. She has worked on short films, docuseries, along with various shows or content pieces for platforms such as BBC Sounds, BET International, Word on the Curb, BuzzFeed and more. In addition to this, she has worked with global brands such as Converse, Nike, Footlocker, Cartoon Network and Boomerang. With such a prolific portfolio, Tonye also prides herself in creating her own content. Her latest work, Dating Black, is an eight-episode series designed to inspire meaningful discussions about the challenges of dating and reminds us what makes ‘Black love’ radical, transformative and aspirational. Tonye aims for her work to create positive conversations and uplift people to do the same. |
